About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own 24×7 5G Core health across Skylo’s production NTN stack
Monitor and triage Core NF alarms using OSS dashboards, Grafana, telemetry, and Loki log correlation
Execute and maintain Core-domain runbooks for P2–P4 faults, including pod restarts, storage recovery, certificate rotation, IMSI reconciliation, and BSS-IIS incident response
Maintain DMP certificate management procedures and escalate DMP, BOSS, and EMS integration issues
Own IMSI lifecycle operations, including activation, deactivation, KML file management, state reconciliation, and provisioning exception handling
Serve as L3 escalation authority for Core-domain incidents and diagnose protocol-level failures
Lead Core troubleshooting bridges and coordinate vendor and engineering participants
Diagnose and resolve registration, session, handover, IMS, SEPP, provisioning, and signaling-loop failures
Manage vendor ticket lifecycles and enforce SLA response commitments
Participate in the global 24×7 on-call rotation as Core escalation tier
Lead end-to-end Core-domain root-cause analyses and deliver initial and final RCA documentation
Identify systemic failure patterns and translate them into engineering requirements
Contribute Core availability, session success, MTTR, recurring issue, and SLA analysis to network performance reports
Define and refine Core KPIs and performance baselines
Tune alarms, alert thresholds, and correlation rules to improve proactive issue detection
Author, test, maintain, and govern Core-domain runbooks and SOPs
Define diagnostic decision trees and review Senior NRE runbook contributions
Partner with Product Engineering on Core release readiness and operational acceptance criteria
Collaborate with BOSS, Cloud Infrastructure NRE, Service Assurance & Automation, vendors, Core Engineering, and MNO partners
Mentor Senior NREs in Core-domain troubleshooting, trace reading, log correlation, and escalation judgment

Requirements

What you’ll need

8–10+ years of experience in 5G/4G Core operations or Core engineering in a production 24×7 environment
Direct ownership of live Core NF infrastructure
Deep 3GPP Core expertise, including TS 23.501/23.502, NAS, NG-AP/S1AP, IMS architecture, IMSI lifecycle procedures, and subscriber provisioning flows
Demonstrated ability to diagnose AMF registration failures, SMF session drops, UPF forwarding anomalies, AUSF authentication failures, IMS SIP/Diameter errors, and SEPP interconnect issues
Proficiency with Wireshark or equivalent for NAS, SIP, Diameter, and HTTP/2 (SBI) protocol-level analysis
Kubernetes-native Core operations experience, including pod health monitoring, rolling restarts, PVC and persistent storage management, log aggregation, and kubectl
Production observability experience with Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent tools
Ability to build queries, set alert thresholds, and interpret metric-level degradation signals
Ability to write diagnostic runbooks executable independently under incident pressure
ITSM proficiency with Jira, ServiceNow, or equivalent
Strong written and verbal communication for RCA documents, engineering escalations, and MNO-facing technical summaries
