About the role

  • Contribute across politics and culture sections as needed
  • Write several long-form pieces per year
  • Publish one to two shorter stories per week commenting on headlines while advancing longer-lead work
  • Cover topics including social trends, political life, relationships, sex, religion, education, food, and internet culture
  • Produce explainers, news commentary, experiential and reported features, and blogs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least five years in a writing and reporting position required
  • At least five to seven years’ experience working as a writer, preferably in a reporting role with feature-writing experience
  • Sharp, funny, provocative mind and confidence executing ideas
  • Deep well of story ideas and sharp understanding of the cultural landscape
  • Top-notch online sleuthing and communication skills
  • Feature-writing experience
  • Ability to generate and refine ideas, find sources, and connect the dots through original reporting and sharp analysis
  • Strong remote candidates may be considered
