About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Develop modular, maintainable backend applications, APIs, data services, and integration components using Python
Design cloud-based software and data architectures
Integrate backend, data, AI, edge, and cloud components into end-to-end systems
Develop data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes for machine, sensor, image, event, and time-series data
Integrate cloud services, databases, storage, and streaming technologies
Ensure data quality, traceability, and availability
Analyze data and develop prototypes using data science and machine learning approaches
Assess data quality, model performance, technical feasibility, and the limitations of data-driven solutions
Develop and integrate computer vision solutions for visual quality inspection, condition monitoring, or predictive maintenance
Help shape hardware-software architectures involving cameras, sensors, edge systems, data pipelines, cloud components, and AI models
Develop prototypes and demonstrators with industry partners, technology partners, start-ups, and research institutions
Ensure quality through API design, automated testing, code reviews, version control, containerization, CI/CD, and documentation
Contribute to design sprints, hackathons, and co-innovation projects

Requirements

What you’ll need

Excellent Python skills demonstrated through project experience
Solid professional experience in backend or software development
Strong knowledge of data engineering
Practical experience with data pipelines, data integration, and ETL or ELT processes
Good knowledge of data science, exploratory data analysis, statistical methods, and the evaluation of data-driven models
Project experience with computer vision, image processing, or comparable machine learning applications
Experience with relational, non-relational, or time-series databases
Experience with cloud architectures and cloud services, ideally in an AWS environment
Understanding of modern software architecture and development standards, including Clean Code, testing, API design, Git, Docker, and CI/CD
Understanding of how software, data, AI, sensors, and hardware interact
Degree in computer science, data science, data engineering, software engineering, mathematics, engineering, or a comparable field—or relevant vocational training or equivalent practical experience
Good communication skills in German and English
Helpful additional experience: AWS Glue, Redpanda, Apache Kafka, MLOps, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, monitoring, observability, cameras, edge systems, industrial sensors, OPC UA, MQTT, REST, Modbus, dashboard and visualization frameworks, rapid prototyping, design sprints, and hackathons
Ability to technically evaluate AI-generated code and assess risks related to security, data protection, code quality, licensing, intellectual property, and maintainability
