About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own the target-state architecture for Smartsheet's AI platform, integrating Data, Agents, Knowledge Graph, and Context Graph
Set the architecture for the agent harness and sub-agent framework, including orchestration, lifecycle, hand-off contracts, Evals, and capability-tier classification
Design and own schemas/ontologies, ingestion and freshness pipelines, and retrieval and grounding patterns
Build and maintain a reusable reference agent framework for orchestration, tracing, and deployment
Author and publish a shared skills and tools library with interface contracts and versioning
Build prototypes to de-risk architecture decisions and define criteria for promoting prototypes into supported capabilities
Define deployment, security, governance, and prototype-to-production patterns
Serve as primary technical lead for strategic technology partners including Databricks, AWS, and Anthropic
Partner with Principal Engineers and team leads to align platform milestones through architecture authority and prototypes
Support Forward Deployed Engineering and review MCP/external parity gate criteria
Drive architecture decisions to closure and keep the escalation backlog near zero

Requirements

What you’ll need

Deep, hands-on experience architecting production agentic systems on Databricks Platform, AWS Bedrock/AgentCore and MCPs
Experience in agent harness/orchestration design, sub-agent boundaries, tracing and observability (e.g., MLflow), Evals, Governance, Responsible AI and cost/latency instrumentation at platform scale
Strong background in Knowledge and Context graph based systems, including ontology design, ingestion pipelines, and retrieval/grounding evaluation
Builder's track record: rapidly prototype, ship working software, and validate patterns through adoption
Experience designing reusable, versioned software interfaces, skills, tools, and libraries with clear contracts and promotion criteria from prototype to production
Familiarity with Databricks, Bedrock, Strands SDK, and MCP (Model Context Protocol)
Experience operating as a technical DRI in strategic partner relationships with Databricks, AWS, Anthropic, or similar partners
Proven ability to set cross-team technical standards and drive alignment without formal management authority
Strong judgment on architectural tradeoffs involving model selection, inference patterns, deployment, and governance
Excellent cross-functional communication skills and ability to translate ambiguity into documented architecture decisions
Legally eligible to work in India on an ongoing basis
