About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Get involved from the scoping phase of new embedded systems and software-intensive IoT projects
- Assess customer requirements and propose suitable Open Source solutions
- Define low-level architectures for industrial customers in the aerospace, automotive, railway, telecommunications, and energy sectors
- Provide Level 3 technical support
- Diagnose complex issues, including kernel panics, unstable drivers, and critical optimization challenges
- Review the technical content and quality of the agency’s deliverables
- Provide regular reports to Smile’s expert committee
- Participate in recruitment and assess the technical skills of future talent
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10+ years of experience in embedded software development under Linux
- Extensive experience with complex architectures and high-level customer engagement
- Expert-level command of GNU/Linux
- Advanced expertise in kernel driver development
- Expertise in real-time systems (PREEMPT_RT)
- Extensive expert experience with the Yocto Project (BitBake, custom layers) or Buildroot
- Strong C/C++ programming skills
- Proficiency in Python and Bash
- Proficiency with cross-compilation toolchains
- Proficiency with GDB debuggers
- Proficiency with the Ftrace and LTTng tracing tools
- Proficiency with profiling tools
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to explain complex technical issues in clear, accessible terms
- Team-oriented mindset and natural leadership
- Ongoing monitoring of industry innovations and Agile methodologies, iterative V-model development cycles, and embedded CI/CD
- Fluency in spoken and technical English is essential
