About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Get involved from the scoping phase of new embedded systems and IoT projects
Assess client requirements and propose suitable Open Source solutions
Define low-level architectures for industrial clients
Provide Level 3 technical support
Diagnose complex issues, including kernel panics, unstable drivers, and critical optimization challenges
Review the technical content and quality of the agency’s deliverables
Provide regular reports to Smile’s expert committee
Participate in recruitment and assess the technical skills of prospective talent
Work with the technical leadership of clients in the aerospace, automotive, rail, telecommunications, and energy sectors

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of embedded software development under Linux
Extensive experience with complex architectures and high-level client relationships
Expert-level mastery of GNU/Linux
Strong expertise in kernel driver development
Strong expertise in real-time systems (PREEMPT_RT)
Expert, in-depth experience with the Yocto Project (BitBake, custom layers) or Buildroot
Strong C/C++ programming skills
Proficiency in Python and Bash
Proficiency with cross-compilation toolchains
Proficiency with GDB debuggers
Proficiency with Ftrace and LTTng tracing tools
Proficiency with profiling tools
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to explain complex technical issues in clear, accessible terms
Team-oriented with natural leadership skills
Continuous monitoring of industry innovations and modern methodologies (Agile, iterative V-Cycle development, embedded CI/CD)
Fluency in English, both spoken and technical, is essential
