About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operate equipment required to transport materials, personnel, and tools to job sites
- Facilitate safe and efficient construction and maintenance of electrical systems
- Assist with construction and maintenance tasks for electrical utility systems
- Know the detailed specifications and limitations of operated equipment
- Drive trucks to and from work sites
- Operate winch, derrick, hole digger, trencher, backhoe and accessory equipment
- Report equipment repairs and additional tool needs
- Maintain standard materials, first aid equipment and fire extinguishers on trucks
- Ground vehicles according to safety policy
- Refuel equipment and inspect it for DOT standards
- Assist ground work while linemen perform their duties
- Assist with splices on de-energized underground secondary and primary conductors
- Place pole-mounted and URD pads or equipment safely using derrick trucks or trenchers
- Assist in terminating underground cables in transformers
- Assist with streetlight, pole framing, pole setting, anchor, guy, and ground rod installation
- Load and unload transformers and other materials
- Assist in patrolling lines during outages
- Set up safe roadside work zones
- Identify other utilities' placement and markers
- Develop knowledge of electrical system hazard recognition and safe construction practices
- Apply SSEMC overhead/underground framing and construction specifications and directional hand signals
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be able to operate heavy equipment (digger, trencher, bucket, etc.)
- Must have knowledge of first aid and CPR
- Overtime required
- Valid Commercial Driver's License and Medical Examiner's Certificate of Qualification required
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three years experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Must complete pre-employment verification, including a criminal background check, physical health screening, drug test, MVR and proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
- Ability to meet the knowledge, skill, and ability requirements of the role
