About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, implement, and troubleshoot data communications systems for all locations
- Provide integration and consulting services to internal departments and systems
- Plan, design, and implement network architecture, with cloud expertise preferred
- Provide third-level network support and resolve problems
- Interact with corporate teams on enterprise-level projects
- Perform proactive WAN/LAN capacity management
- Maintain WAN/LAN documentation and business recovery procedures
- Manage changes, software updates, and configurations
- Evaluate and recommend networking hardware and software for data centers and branches
- Operate and maintain network management platforms
- Collaborate with the NOC, Operations, vendors, and support teams to maintain a stable network environment
- Apply security-conscious network design
- Work as part of a high-functioning Engineering team
- Prefer daily on-site work at the Irondale, Alabama data center; remote work may be considered for a superior candidate
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in planning, implementing, and maintaining critical environments
- 5–7 years of networking experience with wide-area networking technologies, protocols, and related hardware, including Cisco, Arista, and Fortinet
- High-end L2/L3 routing and switching, including spine-and-leaf architectures; Arista or Cisco preferred
- SD-WAN, VPN, and basic firewall knowledge; Fortinet preferred
- Data center, cloud, branch, and Internet connectivity experience, including complex BGP routing
- Extensive experience with Ethernet switching, packet analysis, and large-scale LAN and WAN deployments
- Experience with enterprise network management tools such as PRTG, Fortinet Suite, and Arista Cloud Vision
- Experience with network disaster recovery implementations, including cloud
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Minimal travel
- No licenses or certifications required
