About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, and maintain server-side applications and APIs using Node.js
Integrate RESTful APIs and third-party services
Develop and maintain database architectures for robust data storage solutions
Write clean, modular, and reusable code using best practices and design patterns
Conduct unit and integration testing, debug issues, and ensure reliable, maintainable code
Collaborate with front-end developers to integrate components with server-side logic
Stay current with Node.js and related technologies to improve performance and code quality
Participate in Agile development cycles, sprint planning, code reviews, and continuous delivery
Work as part of a team to develop and deliver client projects
Engage with clients, understand their needs, and translate them into effective technical outcomes

Requirements

What you’ll need

Proven experience in Node.js development
Strong knowledge of JavaScript (ES6+), asynchronous programming, and event-driven architecture
Experience with building and maintaining RESTful APIs
Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, including MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
Familiarity with authentication and authorisation mechanisms such as OAuth and JWT
Experience with Git and GitHub/GitLab
Familiarity with Docker
Strong understanding of web performance, security best practices, and error handling
Ability to write clean, efficient, and scalable code
Experience with TypeScript
Familiarity with GraphQL or other modern data-fetching technologies
Experience integrating message brokers such as RabbitMQ and Kafka
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
Knowledge of microservices architecture and related tools
Experience with testing frameworks such as Mocha, Chai, or Jest
Familiarity with front-end technologies such as React, Vue, or Angular is a plus
Experience with back-end technologies such as Java or .Net is a plus
Adaptable, analytical, collaborative, and consultative approach
Strong communication skills
Ability to work in Agile teams and engage with clients
