About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own procurement strategy for generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, and PDUs across multi-site build-out schedules
  • Manage 12–24+ month lead times by securing production slots early and sequencing orders against construction milestones
  • Collaborate with mechanical/electrical engineers, general contractors, and EPC firms to align equipment with design specifications
  • Manage strategic relationships with MEP OEMs, including capacity reservations and volume agreements
  • Coordinate factory witness testing, field commissioning, and startup support with vendors
  • Model equipment spend against site capacity plans, tracking cost per MW and escalation trends
  • Build contingency strategies for switchgear and transformer shortages through multi-vendor qualification and strategic inventory buffers
  • Align equipment specifications with utility interconnection requirements, local code compliance, and permitting timelines
  • Prioritize equipment supporting renewable integration, efficient PUE, and emissions reduction
  • Negotiate extended warranties, spare parts inventories, and long-term service agreements for critical equipment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years of experience in MEP or critical infrastructure procurement, ideally within data centers, power infrastructure, or large-scale capital equipment
  • Established relationships with major MEP OEMs, including Caterpillar, Cummins, Vertiv, Schneider Electric, Eaton, Trane, Carrier, and ABB
  • Deep understanding of redundancy tiers (N, N+1, 2N) and how equipment specifications map to design and engineering requirements
  • Proven track record managing long-lead-time equipment, including generators, switchgear, and transformers, against aggressive construction schedules
  • Experience with capex modeling, cost-per-MW tracking, and escalation forecasting across major equipment categories
  • Comfort operating independently and owning procurement execution end-to-end without a supporting team
  • Ability to manage generators, UPS systems, switchgear, transformers, CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, and PDUs
  • Experience coordinating factory witness testing (FAT), field commissioning (Cx), and startup support
  • Knowledge of utility interconnection requirements, local code compliance, and permitting timelines
