About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform acceptance testing and commissioning of equipment in substations, BESS and PV facilities
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment
  • Ensure safe working environments through adherence to company and industry safety standards
  • Understand, follow, and communicate safety regulations and work procedures
  • Prepare timely and accurate documentation and required reports
  • Complete jobs with assistance from Technicians and Trainees
  • Assemble, write, and review complete test reports for performed or supervised work
  • Handle multiple jobs simultaneously
  • Communicate with clients, vendors, and teammates
  • Assess other technicians' safety and technical skill sets
  • Perform transformer power factor, excitation, short-circuit impedance, winding resistance, turns ratio, and load tap changer testing
  • Perform circuit breaker time/travel analysis, including test setup, execution, saving, printing, reviewing, and creating test plans
  • Test current transformers using computer-controlled test equipment
  • Perform computer-controlled transformer testing
  • Enter test data into test report software
  • Learn and perform testing of transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, contactors, motors, generators, current transformers, grounding systems, disconnect switches, and low/medium-voltage cables per NETA standards
  • Complete applicable solar work safety and technical training
  • Support staff development and training

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) or equivalent
  • Ability to travel 75% of time
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize work hazards and mitigate using proper tools and procedures
  • Effective verbal and written English language communication skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Ability to work at remote locations in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather)
  • Ability to work on an “on call” basis, including weekends or after-hours situations
  • Valid driver’s license, satisfactory driving record and ability to operate company vehicle
  • CPR/First Aid training
  • Knowledge of Job Safety Analysis
  • Knowledge of Electrical Testing Standard Operating Procedures
  • Ability to learn and safely operate electrical testing equipment and computer-controlled test systems
  • Ability to enter test data into test report software
  • Ability to work near medium and high voltage
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future
  • Ability to meet physical demands, including frequent lifting of 50 or more lbs, climbing, stooping, standing, walking, and working in difficult-to-access locations
  • Ability to work in environments involving weather, vibration, dust, fumes, electric shock, radiation, toxic/caustic chemicals, high noise, and moving machinery
