About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage all aspects of utility-scale solar projects, including planning, budgeting, buyout, project controls/reporting, scheduling and risk management
  • Plan, execute and oversee significant scopes of self-performed work with large labor crews
  • Plan sequencing, crew sizes, productivity goals and monthly labor spend; track results and refine forecasts
  • Develop safety plans and implement safety procedures with the Superintendent
  • Oversee project billings, cash flow and aged receivables collection
  • Present and negotiate owner change orders
  • Negotiate subcontract and material purchases
  • Implement job procedures for timely buyout, shop drawing approval and material delivery
  • Maintain project schedule and provide accurate cost forecasting and estimated cost-at-completion reporting
  • Manage, train and supervise the project team; mentor junior employees
  • Review contract conditions and ensure compliance
  • Document significant project events, including accidents, delays and change orders
  • Direct preconstruction services and activities
  • Prepare and issue subcontract bid packages
  • Manage project risks and prepare mitigation plans
  • Maintain quality control and implement the Site-Specific Quality Management Plan
  • Avoid or mitigate claims and conflicts
  • Complete project close-out and warranty follow-up
  • Develop relationships with owners, architects and subcontractors
  • Coordinate material suppliers and resolve logistical and supply-chain challenges
  • Negotiate and coordinate with local contract labor providers
  • Organize and lead meetings with owners and key project partners
  • Achieve proposal schedule accuracy, resolve project claims and impacts, and develop scheduling competence across the operations team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Engineering, Construction Management or Architectural Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Field construction management experience (5-8 years, including supervisory skills)
  • Leadership ability to organize diverse team members into a cohesive, high-performing project team
  • Strong computer skills with MS Office suite and industry-standard tools such as Bluebeam Revu; CMiC experience a plus
  • Fundamental knowledge of contract law and project accounting
  • Thorough understanding of project management control systems, including scheduling, cost control, procurement and estimating
  • Understanding of utility-scale PV plant construction means, methods, sequencing, and techniques
  • Understanding of utility & ISO interconnection sequence & durations
  • Able to travel extensively (minimum 50%), including lengthy jobsite-based assignments in remote/rural areas
  • Strong organizational, communication and people skills
  • Detail-oriented, motivated self-starter
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future
