About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead preconstruction efforts for high-voltage electrical projects ranging from 12kV through 500kV+ systems
  • Oversee project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and constructability reviews
  • Develop project execution strategies aligned with client objectives and company goals
  • Coordinate preconstruction deliverables from project inception through construction turnover
  • Prepare conceptual, budgetary, and detailed cost estimates
  • Analyze engineering designs, specifications, and bid documents
  • Review labor productivity, equipment requirements, and material pricing
  • Develop quantity takeoffs and identify cost-saving opportunities
  • Maintain estimating databases and market pricing trends
  • Serve as primary preconstruction point of contact for clients, utilities, consultants, and internal stakeholders
  • Participate in project pursuits and proposal presentations
  • Facilitate project kickoff meetings and stakeholder alignment sessions
  • Build and maintain client relationships throughout the project lifecycle
  • Identify risks related to scope, schedule, procurement, labor, permitting, and site conditions
  • Lead constructability reviews and value-engineering initiatives
  • Develop mitigation strategies and contingency plans
  • Review project execution plans for safety, quality, and operational efficiency
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and procurement teams to develop detailed project schedules
  • Identify long-lead equipment requirements, including transformers, breakers, switchgear, and protection systems
  • Monitor critical path activities and project milestones
  • Support procurement strategy development
  • Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor proposals
  • Develop bid packages and scopes of work
  • Analyze supplier capabilities and delivery schedules
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, finance, procurement, and business development teams
  • Ensure alignment between estimates, schedules, and execution plans
  • Facilitate handoff from preconstruction to construction operations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Project Management, or related field preferred
  • Equivalent industry experience may be considered
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical construction, high-voltage projects, estimating, or project management
  • 3+ years of experience leading preconstruction activities preferred
  • Experience with substations, transmission lines, utility-scale solar, wind, BESS, or industrial electrical projects
  • Experience managing projects exceeding $10M preferred
  • Familiarity with high-voltage substations
  • Familiarity with transmission and distribution systems
  • Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements
  • Familiarity with electrical codes and industry standards
  • Familiarity with EPC and design-build delivery methods
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Microsoft Project or Primavera P6
  • Bluebeam
  • Accubid, InEight, HeavyBid, or similar estimating platforms
  • Procore or equivalent construction management software
  • Ability to travel to project sites, client meetings, and utility facilities as required
  • Ability to work in office and field environments
