About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the execution of Sonoco’s global sustainable packaging strategy and business unit-level regulatory needs
  • Review global legal requirements, focusing on packaging design (PPWR), extended producer responsibility (EPR), reporting (CSRD), supply chains (EUDR, CSDDD), and external communication (EmpCo)
  • Coordinate regulatory implementation with internal stakeholders
  • Collect and analyze market and customer insights to support sustainable product development
  • Handle customer requests and optimize documentation and feedback processes using modern IT tools
  • Represent Sonoco in selected packaging industry associations and contribute to relevant focus areas
  • Organize internal guidelines, webinars, trainings, and newsletters
  • Support trials and recyclability investigations at lab or industrial scale globally
  • Support global coordination of SEDEX / SMETA activities
  • Identify and implement continuous improvements
  • Manage internal and external stakeholder engagement on sustainability-related aspects of Sonoco’s packaging
  • Develop internal and external communications supporting Sonoco’s sustainability efforts
  • Manage tool development on sustainability-related databases
  • Coordinate and report sustainability activities across the business
  • Handle moderate to complex issues under limited supervision and refer more complex issues to higher-level staff

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BS or BA degree with a background of sustainability
  • 2 to 4 years of experience with sustainability and/or regulatory compliance principles, preferably in the context of packaging
  • Native language + English
  • Interest in identifying and analyzing information, including legislation and industry standards
  • Ability to effectively communicate findings and key issues both internally and externally
  • Aptitude to support the development of novel concepts and solutions
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships globally
  • Ability to effectively network internally to gain support in achieving objectives
  • Ability to mediate between technical, commercial and sustainability requirements
  • Willingness to travel (10%)
