About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Undertake the Asset Owner role for above and below ground water supply assets in the Sussex/West Region.
- Lead a regional team of 8–10 Asset Management Planners and Modellers.
- Understand long- and short-term asset management needs and develop Whole Life costed options for appraisal.
- Produce the long-term Regional Asset Management Strategy.
- Maintain current service levels and address future demand and resilience challenges.
- Oversee Operational Zone plans and translate strategic needs into base and enhancement investment requirements.
- Chair the Regional Risk & Resilience Forum/Steering Group.
- Manage regional risks, current service provision, and future investment needs.
- Undertake the Project Sponsor role for complex investment schemes.
- Assure asset planners’ investment-needs development through project lifecycle Phases 0–2.
- Direct Operational Zone Asset Management Plans.
- Oversee Demand, Scheme, and incident-level modelling capability.
- Engage, collaborate, and influence Water Supply, Water Quality, Water Resources, Engineering, and Asset Management stakeholders.
- Escalate concerns through governance boards such as the Asset Management Steering Group.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline (e.g., Engineering, Water Management, Science or Business) or possessing equivalent professional accreditation and significant vocational experience.
- Professional certification in Asset Management (e.g., IAM Certificate/Diploma) is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present complex information with clarity to senior management team and wider directors.
- Ability to think long term and develop Regional Whole Life asset management Strategies.
- Teamwork and stakeholder management, operating at a senior level to agree appropriate AM decisions.
- Significant previous asset management experience, preferably in water sector.
- Experience in asset planning and risk identification.
- Knowledgeable/experienced in water distribution networks or production assets and processes.
- Experience in the production of long term strategic asset management plans.
- Understanding of regulatory frameworks and cycles (price reviews).
- Legal right to work in the UK when beginning employment.
- Ability to pass background, identity, and employment referencing checks.
- Flexibility to perform duties and other tasks within capabilities.
