About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Evaluate Environmental Resource Permit (ERP) applications and exemption requests
  • Review permit-related documents for permitting and compliance activities
  • Generate correspondence regarding application deficiencies and completeness within mandated deadlines
  • Review engineering drawings, reports, computer models, and permit documents for permit and District rule compliance
  • Meet with the public, permit applicants, and representatives regarding permitting and compliance
  • Respond to public and consultant questions about surface water permitting
  • Develop correspondence and responses regarding permitted and non-permitted surface water management systems
  • Provide engineering and regulatory input and project assistance to other disciplines, sections, and divisions
  • Use WMIS/E-Permitting and GIS/ArcMap to support compliance and permitting decisions
  • Monitor construction activities, inspect permitted storm water management systems, and investigate complaints
  • Conduct field inspections and facility verification
  • Coordinate with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies and governmental organizations
  • Represent the ERP Evaluation Manager at Surface Water Regulation meetings when necessary
  • Participate in ERP Bureau projects and departmental activities
  • Perform assigned emergency management duties before, during, and after major storm events or declared emergencies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's in Engineering
  • Engineer 1: 0 years of experience
  • Engineer 2: 2 years of experience
  • Engineer 3: 4 years of experience and PE certification
  • Engineer 4: 5 years of experience and PE certification
  • Valid driver's license required for all positions
  • Successful candidate must be a Florida resident
  • Ability to review engineering drawings, reports, computer models, and permit documents
  • Proficiency with Water Management Information System (WMIS/E-Permitting) and Geographic Information System (GIS)/ArcMap
  • Ability to perform field inspections and operate levels, tape, other equipment, and motorized vehicles, including off-road 4x4 conditions
  • Ability to bend, lift, carry, reach above shoulder level, and occasionally lift/carry up to 20 pounds
  • Ability to work in remote and undeveloped areas under adverse weather conditions and exposure to pests
  • Ability to respond to emergency management duties before, during, and after major storm events
  • Must complete the District employment application in full; resume is not a substitute
  • Applicants within 30 days of graduation may not start until all minimum qualifications are met
  • District does not sponsor applicants for work visas
