About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own and extend Nutshell, including design tokens, shared components, and reusable patterns
  • Refactor existing frontend systems and establish UI foundations for emerging products
  • Shape the system so engineers and AI agents produce accessible, consistent UI by default
  • Address undefined design details such as empty states, keyboard behavior, and screens under operational load
  • Enable adoption through documentation, feedback, and occasional workshops
  • Collaborate with developers, product managers, designers, customers, and other development teams
  • Make technical and design decisions from discovery through shipped solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Track record of building data-dense, complex operational interfaces
  • Deep knowledge of React, TypeScript, modern CSS, and component API design
  • Experience getting a design system or shared component library adopted by other engineers
  • Ability to work across the stack, with frontend as the specialty
  • Curiosity about AI-assisted development and current experimentation with AI tools
  • Clear communication with design and product teams
  • Ability to write effective documentation
  • High standards, proactive communication, and strong ownership
  • Typically 5+ years of experience
  • Experience in transit, mobility, or logistics is nice to have
  • Experience at a high-growth startup is nice to have
  • Comfort working in design tooling with designers is nice to have
  • Experience coaching other engineers is nice to have
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Able to commit to working in downtown Vancouver on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday
