About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the day-to-day activities of an individual retail store
  • Ensure all departments are fully staffed, trained and operating to company standards
  • Cultivate a positive, high-performing and customer-focused store culture
  • Manage staffing, training, performance management, career development and department goals
  • Develop and monitor department budgets and prepare quarterly and yearly budgets with assistance
  • Manage overall store profit and loss, including sales, gross profit and controllable expenses
  • Follow up to ensure financial goals are achieved
  • Coordinate store activities for successful operations and compliance with safety, food safety, human resources, merchandising, loss prevention, Department of Labor and OSHA checks and audits
  • Oversee corporate merchandising and inventory programs
  • Partner with corporate business partners to ensure operational and merchandising standards are communicated and followed
  • Implement work schedules, labor control and store payroll expense control programs
  • Implement OWN IT! customer service programs and model high service standards
  • Engage with the local neighborhood or community to positively position the Company’s presence
  • Monitor industry and local trends and best practices and recommend improvements
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
  • Five years of experience in a retail grocery environment with increasing levels of responsibility
  • Two years of experience in an assistant store manager or similar level role
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization, prioritization, decision-making, problem solving and conflict management skills
  • Strong leadership abilities with capability to work in a hands-on environment
  • Strong strategic planning and business acumen skills
  • Strong knowledge of retail store operations and retail management systems
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish is highly desirable depending on company location
  • Ability to lift and/or move 20 pounds
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand and walk
  • Ability to work in a typical office environment and varying temperatures/noise conditions as applicable
  • Travel requirements vary by assignment
  • Must not require employer-sponsored work visa; the company is not able to sponsor work visas
