About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own major Android product features end to end, collaborating with Design from decision through release
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Write code, review pull requests, and provide constructive technical feedback
  • Unblock engineers by investigating and resolving difficult issues
  • Identify reusable solutions and consolidate duplicated implementations
  • Maintain shared code that is tested, clear, and reusable
  • Drive changes to team processes and working practices
  • Reduce manual intervention required for correct releases
  • Address recurring problems by improving the underlying setup
  • Expand automated verification so nightly QA builds provide confirmation rather than first detection
  • Run planning and focus team attention on work requiring decisions
  • Define appropriate review levels and sign-off requirements
  • Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions and communicate team constraints early
  • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds to QA
  • Support early-career engineers with meaningful work and learning time

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on
  • Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work
  • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them
  • Experience introducing a team practice or change that persisted after implementation
  • Comfort asking people to change how they work and managing resulting friction
  • Ability to determine which changes need heavy review and which do not, based on system behavior
  • Track record of building things used by the wider team
  • Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to improve Android UI/UX beyond specifications
  • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the specification
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Links to a portfolio and LinkedIn included with application
  • Open source Android experience, or experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS are bonuses
