About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own major features end to end with the design team, from decision through release
  • Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
  • Review pull requests and provide developmental feedback
  • Unblock engineers and investigate team blockers
  • Standardize successful implementations for team-wide use
  • Maintain tested, clear, and consolidated shared code
  • Drive changes to team processes
  • Reduce manual intervention required for correct releases
  • Address recurring problems by changing underlying systems
  • Expand automated verification and shift testing earlier in development
  • Run planning focused on unresolved decisions
  • Define review requirements and sign-off points
  • Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions
  • Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA
  • Support early-career engineers with meaningful work and learning time
  • Participate in technical interviews and a real-codebase assessment

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on
  • Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests
  • Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work
  • Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them
  • Experience introducing processes or practices that persist after implementation
  • Comfort asking people to change how they work and managing resulting friction
  • Ability to determine which changes need heavy review and which do not
  • Track record of building things used by the wider team
  • Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents
  • Product design intuition, user empathy, and Android UI/UX skills
  • Self-drive to improve the app and codebase
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Links to portfolio and LinkedIn included with application
  • Open source Android projects experience is a bonus
  • Experience with iOS, Web, or NodeJS is a bonus
