About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own major Android features end to end from decision through release, working closely with Design
Own, maintain, and improve reliability metrics for key features
Review pull requests and provide developmental feedback
Unblock engineers by investigating technical issues
Standardize successful implementations for team-wide use
Maintain tested, clear, and consolidated shared components
Improve team processes and reduce manual intervention in releases
Address recurring problems by changing underlying systems
Expand automated verification and shift testing earlier in development
Run planning and prioritize work requiring decisions
Define review requirements and approval responsibilities
Participate in Product, Design, and Engineering discussions
Handle critical issues, own feature releases, and provide nightly builds for QA
Mentor early-career engineers
Work hands-on by writing and reviewing code while leading the team

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of software engineering experience, including time leading a team or owning a major surface while staying hands-on
Rock solid Kotlin, Kotlin Coroutines, Kotlin Flow, Dagger 2, MVVM, Clean Architecture, Background Services, Music Player Service, Android animations, Jetpack Navigation, and JUnit tests
Experience shipping and maintaining background audio or other long-running background work
Understanding of the importance of tests and how to approach writing them, including what can't be covered by them
Experience introducing practices or systems that remain adopted by a team
Comfort asking people to change how they work and handling resulting friction
Ability to determine which changes need heavy review and which do not
Track record of building things the rest of the team uses
Ability to describe how the team works with AI agents
Product design intuition, user empathy, and drive to improve Android UI/UX
Self-drive to improve the app and codebase beyond the specification
Excellent communication skills
Several technical interviews plus an assessment on a real codebase
