About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build and run production backend systems that improve how listeners discover and enjoy music videos
- Design, develop, and evolve scalable backend services and APIs supporting high-traffic parts of the Spotify app
- Develop and maintain Java services and Scio data pipelines used by millions of listeners
- Partner with product managers and engineers to solve complex problems and create smooth listener experiences
- Contribute to system design, code quality, and reliable, well-run systems within an autonomous, cross-functional squad
- Explore and experiment with AI tools available at Spotify to improve development and shipping
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience with Java or another JVM language
- Familiarity with or interest in learning data pipeline tools such as Scio, Apache Beam, or similar
- Experience building and operating distributed, high-volume services in production
- Ideally experience with a cloud platform such as Google Cloud Platform
- Knowledge of system design, data structures, and algorithms
- Ability to work directly with partners to translate needs into scalable backend systems, APIs, and pipelines
- Care for code quality, reliability, and maintainability
- Experience in data engineering or machine learning is a bonus, not a requirement
- Ability to collaborate across team boundaries
- Ability to work within the US Eastern timezone for collaboration
