About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise Java applications
Analyze and resolve complex software defects and production issues
Support enhancements and sustainment activities for applications using Java, Spring Framework, Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, WebLogic, Hibernate, Oracle, and related technologies
Design and implement REST and SOAP-based services and integrations
Develop and maintain modern backend services using Java 17+, Spring Boot, microservices, JPA/Hibernate, and REST APIs
Collaborate with architects and senior developers on modernization initiatives
Develop and optimize SQL queries and database integrations
Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers
Contribute to automated testing, CI/CD processes, and application deployments
Collaborate with cross-functional Agile teams to deliver high-quality software solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
3–7 years of software development experience
Strong experience with Java development
Experience with Spring Framework and/or Spring Boot
Experience developing REST APIs and web services
Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases
Experience using Git-based source control
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Required)
Must have reliable internet service that allows for effective telecommuting
Standard business hours are Monday through Friday; occasional extended or weekend hours may be required based on operational needs
Preferred: Experience with WebLogic application server administration or deployment
Preferred: Experience with Struts, JSP, EJB, JMS, or other enterprise Java technologies
Preferred: Experience with microservices architectures
Preferred: Experience with Docker and containerized applications
Preferred: Experience with React, JavaScript, or TypeScript
Preferred: Experience supporting federal government or VA programs
Preferred: Experience with Jira and Confluence
