About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop a journal development strategy for BMC Psychology, considering journal performance, development needs, and the overall BMC series strategy
  • Support subject-specific strategy development across Springer Nature's Journals group
  • Identify and commission reviews, collections and supplements, and work with the scientific community to drive them forward
  • Oversee content handling in BMC Psychology, advising editorial board members and handling submissions where required
  • Investigate and resolve publishing or research ethics cases, with guidance from the Springer Nature Research Integrity Group when needed
  • Engage with teams to resolve editorial issues and prioritize author service while maintaining editorial standards
  • Advise on editorial policy development
  • Build relationships with Editorial Board Members and authors
  • Discuss journal policy, content issues and editorial board recruitment with Senior Board Members
  • Recruit and train new editorial board members
  • Support editorial board engagement initiatives
  • Host regular Senior Board and Editorial Board Meetings in person or online
  • Ensure Editorial Board members understand journal ethos, editorial policies and required training
  • Develop journal website content and features
  • Attend conferences to promote journals and develop relevant contacts
  • Increase journal visibility through blogs and social media activities
  • Support colleagues, provide coverage when needed and share expertise and experience

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Educated to PhD level (or equivalent), psychology, mental health, or a related field
  • An interest in open access publishing
  • An interest in scientific research and current knowledge of a relevant field
  • Knowledge of editorial process and related matters
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Highly customer focused
  • Strong analytical/critical appraisal skills
  • Willing to travel occasionally and represent BMC at external events
  • Able to respond to non-routine circumstances
  • Excellent time management and prioritization skills, able to balance short-term deadlines with long-term goals
  • Self-starter with a positive, can-do approach to problem-solving
  • Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
