About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle original research papers and work closely with other editors on the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review
- Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts based on expert advice
- Determine the representation of the subject in the journal
- Liaise with editors at other Nature journals and experts in the international scientific community
- Attend conferences and visit research institutions
- Report to a Chief Editor in the health and clinical sciences division at Nature Communications
- Collaborate with other Nature Portfolio journals as needed
- Responsibilities and journal assignments may evolve according to portfolio needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- PhD (or equivalent) in political science, economics (particularly behavioural economics), or a closely related field
- Additional research experience is valuable but not necessary
- Thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field
- Passion for science and thirst to learn more
- Breadth of interest in scientific research within and beyond speciality
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluent in English, written and spoken
- Ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research from different areas of the discipline
- Eagerness to travel and meet scientists worldwide
- Applicants should include a CV and covering letter
- Editorial experience is not required; significant editorial experience is encouraged for Senior Editor consideration
