About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage a portfolio of open access journals across microbiology and oncology
  • Develop and implement annual journal development plans
  • Explore business development opportunities
  • Manage annual targets for journal submissions, publications, transfers, and turnaround times
  • Deliver a best-in-class author experience and engage Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board Members, and Societies
  • Resolve pre- and post-publication issues involving authorship, scope, ethics, consent, misconduct, and policies
  • Gather, evaluate, and synthesise information for data-driven decisions and strategic planning
  • Manage contract negotiations with external parties
  • Use and develop knowledge of financial profit and loss statements and forecasting
  • Collaborate with colleagues, researchers, and external Editors
  • Monitor changes in the research community and publishing industry
  • Report to an Executive Publisher

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Educated to bachelor’s degree level or equivalent, preferably in a relevant field of study (life, biomedical or health sciences)
  • A resourceful and proactive approach in dealing with problems and queries, and the ability to adapt quickly to change
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Persuasion and influencing skills, including diplomacy and assertiveness
  • Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team
  • Ability to work independently and on own initiative
  • Strong time management and organisational skills, including proven ability to take ownership of tasks and meet deadlines
  • Experience developing and maintaining productive relationships with academic and industry-based researchers
  • Strong technical skills and sharp attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • Previous experience in journal or book academic publishing is desirable
