About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Handle original research papers and work with editor teams on manuscript selection and peer review
- Make well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts based on expert advice
- Contribute to content and strategy for the relevant area at Communications Physics
- Collaborate with external editorial board members in manuscript handling
- Commission and edit Reviews and write editorials
- Liaise with editors at other Nature Portfolio journals and experts in the international scientific community
- Attend conferences and visit research institutions
- Champion Communications Physics within the scientific community
- Promote the journal’s coverage across all fields of physics
Requirements
What you’ll need- Research experience to PhD level (or equivalent) in a discipline covered by the journal
- Expertise in the broad area of optical physics and photonics
- Candidates with expertise in plasma and laser physics are also encouraged to apply
- Ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research from different disciplines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Fluency in English, written and spoken
- Eagerness to meet scientists worldwide and learn about their research
- Willingness to travel to conferences and research institutions several times a year
- Good handle of social media platforms desirable
- Comfort working in a fast-paced collaborative environment
- Interest in writing news-type, non-specialist features
- Editorial experience required for the Senior Editor role
- CV, cover letter explaining interest and preferred office, and a separate document with 5 commissioning ideas required
