About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Settle residential insurance claims primarily by telephone using the online claims processing system
- Receive assignments within authority, make first contact and gather loss details
- Work with customers and contractors to replace or restore damaged property
- Set reserves and maintain an efficient follow-up system
- Secure telephone statements and analyze coverage
- Prepare opening and closing loss summaries and maintain up-to-date notes
- Request payments
- Identify policies requiring underwriting reviews
- Review the claims process and help customers submit required information
- Determine claim coverage and explain decisions
- Secure, evaluate and approve contractor quotations
- Assist with schedules and repair or replacement of lost or damaged property
- Negotiate settlements, arrange payments and finalize claims
- Maintain training and industry knowledge
Requirements
What you’ll need- At least 1 year of building damage adjusting, including handling water damage claims
- At least 1 year of tenure with a recent employer
- A high school diploma
- Some post-secondary education preferred
- A CIP or GIE designation, or working towards one of these
- A Level 1 or 2 BC or AB adjusting license, or education and experience to qualify for one immediately
- Superior analytical and decision-making skills
- Effective communication, active listening and questioning skills
- Conflict-management skills
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to receive and apply constructive feedback
- Ability to work independently and with a team
