About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Process weekly and biweekly payrolls for shipyards, vessel operating companies, and administrative staff, including crew and onshore wages, salaries, and benefits
  • Ensure accurate calculation of payroll, bonuses, deductions, taxes, and direct deposits
  • Serve as the primary payroll expert in partnership with Accounting and HR
  • Prepare payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll, payroll tax, and benefit-related accounts
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations
  • Post general journal transactions, including intercompany funding transfers
  • Review general ledger accounts and correct recording errors
  • Assist in preparing preliminary drafts of financial statements
  • Develop new or improve existing payroll processes and technology
  • Support accounts receivable, accounts payable, and purchasing roles as needed
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • 3 years of experience in a multi-entity organization
  • Certified Payroll Professional or Payroll Compliance Practitioner credentials are beneficial
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with QuickBooks Enterprise software
  • Must have led or supported at least one payroll implementation
  • Knowledge of maritime (day rate) or project-based payroll is a plus
  • Experience with Paylocity is preferred
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • High level of integrity and discretion
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll, compensation, and employee personal information
  • Work independently and exercise sound judgment with minimal direct supervision
  • Work adjusted hours as needed to meet payroll deadlines and month-end close
  • Maintain a reliable, secure remote work setup with high-speed internet
  • Comply with company policies, including data security and confidentiality requirements
  • Primarily sedentary computer work with frequent keyboard and data entry
  • Regular verbal and written communication with employees, leadership, and outside vendors
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 20 pounds
  • Work in a home office and company office environment in a shipyard, potentially exposed to noise, weather, and active industrial operations
