About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage approximately three to four small client project teams, typically two to four people each, for a total of around 8–10 people.
  • Run 1:1s, maintain documented assessments and growth plans, and establish clear promotion criteria.
  • Ensure engineers understand expectations, evaluation processes, decision ownership, and company direction.
  • Address concerns, escalate unresolved issues with named owners, and close the loop.
  • Propose project training allocations, recommend pay changes and promotions, and explain decisions to the team.
  • Recognize excellent work and connect it to the company mission and values.
  • Own onboarding quality for direct reports and participate in engineering hiring.
  • Potentially serve as Senior Technical Lead depending on the project and technical level.
  • Shape feature areas, acceptance criteria, milestones, scope, and margin where Stack Builders owns the outcome.
  • Align team work with client product-owner priorities where the client leads the product.
  • Give developers ownership of product areas and split refinement with business analysts where applicable.
  • Run client cadence, deliver honest news early, and bring commercial questions to the commercial owner.
  • Ensure evidence of correctness exists before work is considered complete.
  • Use AI tools daily, direct frontier models and agents, and review their output.
  • Own each project's AI working agreement covering AI usage, intake, adversarial review, automated evaluation, security, and rollback.
  • Help team members adopt AI through pairing and practice.
  • Report intended actions and risks to leadership and maintain a current view of team skills, capacity, and readiness.
  • Report to the CTO and collaborate with the Head of Engineering, Head of Client Services, HR, and the AI core group.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years managing software engineers or software delivery teams, including at least a year where people management was your primary job.
  • Experience handling performance problems, advocating for promotions, and having difficult conversations with care.
  • Product and delivery ownership of client software projects, including responsibility for scope, schedule, and outcome; ideally including fixed-price or outcome-based work.
  • Daily, hands-on use of AI tools in software work, with understanding of specification, evaluation, review, and guardrails.
  • Strong grounding in the software development lifecycle.
  • Client-facing judgment, including communicating hard truths, protecting scope, and delivering.
  • Clear written and spoken Spanish and English (C1 or equivalent).
  • Based in Quito and able to work from the office two days a week.
  • A bachelor's degree is required, in any field.
  • CV attached in English.
  • Acceptance of the Ecuador Privacy Notice is mandatory to be considered.
  • Must be able to work with teams in Ecuador, the United States, and other countries and clients in the United States.
