About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Extend Starbucks Technology and Starbucks Digital Solutions platforms built for North America for broader global use
  • Design extension points, configuration, and localization approaches for international markets
  • Lead hands-on engineering to prove platform extension approaches in real markets
  • Design API, event, and data integration patterns connecting US platforms with market and licensee systems
  • Build automated data ingestion from markets
  • Define engineering standards, reference architectures, and integration requirements within the Global Licensing Framework
  • Lead architecture and solution reviews to ensure consistent adoption
  • Shape the engagement model between North America-focused core teams, the global core, and regional engineering teams
  • Ensure international requirements are designed in early and delivered without disrupting core-team roadmaps
  • Collaborate with Starbucks Technology, Starbucks Digital Solutions, and regional technology leadership across Asia Pacific, EMEA, and Latin America and the Caribbean
  • Refresh technical standards in the Global Licensing Framework
  • Extend the observability platform to international regions
  • Scale selected Starbucks Technology capabilities beyond North America
  • Drive business outcomes as part of a collaborative team while following Starbucks guiding principles and values

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10–15 years of professional industry experience with software development and platform management
  • 5 years of leading teams of six or more software developers
  • 3 years of demonstrating technical leadership across multiple platforms
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Deep, hands-on knowledge of designing, building, and operating large-scale platforms
  • Deep expertise in modern cloud platforms, with Azure preferred
  • Experience designing API-first, event-driven, and data integration solutions at enterprise scale
  • Experience designing extensible and localized software, including configuration-driven, multi-tenant, or multi-market architectures
  • Proven track record defining technical standards and reference architectures adopted by partner organizations and teams
  • Ability to influence across engineering, product, and business teams without direct authority
  • Strong DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and reliability engineering practice
  • Experience working across multiple markets or regions with distributed teams across time zones
  • Experience scaling technology capabilities across multiple countries or business units is preferred
  • Experience with automated data ingestion and reporting is preferred
  • Comfort working with in-house platforms, third-party solutions, and SaaS solutions, and making build-versus-buy decisions is preferred
  • Understanding of store, retail, or hospitality technology is preferred
