About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Handle litigation and other legal assignments in accordance with Law Department guidelines
Own cases and participate in litigation events
Meet with clients
Prepare and summarize reports for proceedings
Develop trial strategy and cases
Attend trials, mediations, depositions, and hearings
Collaborate with other attorneys and access support staff while maintaining ownership of files
Strategize on trial and case development throughout litigation

Requirements

What you’ll need

0-10+ years litigation experience
Experience preferably in insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, or workers compensation; Assistant Public Defender or District Attorney experience may be considered
Jury trial experience preferred, but not required
Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and applicable substantive law commensurate with level of experience
Trial, mediation, and deposition experience
File ownership
Effective written and oral communication skills
Ability to work efficiently with cases in electronic form
Working knowledge of a Case Management system
Working knowledge of a Document Storage system
J.D. from an A.B.A. Accredited Law School with excellent academic credentials
Active law license to practice in California
Membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
Must be eligible to lawfully work in the U.S. immediately; State Farm will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work opportunities
Must cease all outside practice and suit involvement before joining State Farm, except authorized and pro bono work
Ability to travel via personal or commercial transportation to job-related activities
Irregular hours may be required
