About the role

- Prepare cases for trial

- Meet critical deadlines and follow up on assignments
- Meet with victims, witnesses, and law enforcement
- Negotiate plea agreements
- Plan, develop, and execute litigation strategies
- Prepare, organize, and conduct witness examinations
- Deliver opening statements, closing arguments, and evidentiary objections
- Write reports, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
- Establish cooperative working relationships with attorneys, law enforcement agencies, and other participants in the criminal justice process
Requirements
What you’ll need- Juris Doctor degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in North Carolina
- Attach cover letter, résumé, and writing sample
- Knowledge of federal, state, common, and constitutional law
- Knowledge of judicial procedures and rules of evidence
- Knowledge of NC General Statutes to prosecute criminal cases
- Knowledge of legal research methods, techniques, sources, databases, and other research tools
- Skill in interpreting and applying complex criminal laws
- Skill in researching and identifying precedence in case law
- Skill in utilizing and evaluating electronic legal research and online systems
- Skill in negotiating plea agreements
- Ability to analyze facts, laws, rules, regulations, interpretations, and related written documents
- Ability to conduct legal research
- Ability to plan, develop, and execute effective litigation strategies
- Ability to prepare, organize, and conduct witness examinations
- Ability to deliver opening statements, closing arguments, and evidentiary objections
