About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Supervise and instruct offenders in food preparation, serving, and cleanup according to established menus and schedules
- Inspect food items and supplies for quality and quantity
- Report shortages or discrepancies
- Complete production records, temperature logs, and inventory reports
- Coordinate timely meal service and distribution to designated housing units
- Assist with ordering, receiving, and storing food and supplies
- Maintain security and sanitation standards in a secure correctional environment
Requirements
What you’ll need- Meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302)
- Pass a criminal background check
- Produce a negative drug screening result
- Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma
- One year of experience in institutional food preparation and food services, commercial food service operations management, or as a Correctional Officer for Trainee/I
- Two years of qualifying experience for Correctional Food Service Officer II
- Three years of qualifying experience for Correctional Food Service Officer III
- Ability to work any shift, including rotating, fixed, or split shifts; days, nights, weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime
- Complete six weeks of Basic Correctional Food Service Officer Training (BCOT), including an overnight weekday stay
- Education must be from appropriately accredited institutions
