About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop and maintain a comprehensive web strategy for the Division of State History Museums
- Establish a clear vision for the Division’s statewide digital presence
- Ensure web strategy supports institutional priorities, audience development goals, museum missions, and communications strategies
- Establish web governance standards, policies, workflows, and best practices across the Division
- Provide strategic direction for Division websites and digital experiences, including the North Carolina Museum of History and regional museum websites
- Establish standards for information architecture, navigation, content organization, page structures, and user experience
- Develop and coordinate Division-wide SEO strategies to improve content discoverability
- Coordinate cross-divisional web initiatives and provide guidance to museum and program staff responsible for website content
- Collaborate with communications, marketing, editorial, design, museum leadership, and Division staff
- Occasionally visit museums throughout North Carolina and support statewide digital initiatives
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in web development/design, digital design, computer programming, or related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution; OR associate degree in these fields and one year of related website design and development experience; OR high school/GED diploma and four years of technology experience related to the role; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing web or digital strategies across multiple websites, departments, locations, or organizational units (preferred)
- Strong knowledge of website strategy, content management systems, information architecture, user experience, and digital governance (preferred)
- Demonstrated experience leading digital projects involving multiple stakeholders without direct supervisory authority (preferred)
- Strong communication, collaboration, facilitation, and problem-solving skills (preferred)
- Ability to translate organizational and audience needs into clear digital strategies and priorities (preferred)
- Availability Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm, with occasional evening or weekend work
- Ability to sit for extended periods for sedentary computer use, planning, analysis, meetings, writing, and communication
- Ability to occasionally travel throughout North Carolina
- Must provide proof of employment eligibility on the first day of employment; DNCR participates in E-Verify
