About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage assigned research projects related to agricultural crop and/or livestock production
  • Supervise research technicians and seasonal staff
  • Manage human resources for assigned staff
  • Provide administrative and public relations support
  • Manage technical, mechanical, and infrastructure resources supporting the research platform
  • Maintain equipment and infrastructure required for multiple complex research projects
  • Perform basic vehicle and farm equipment repairs
  • Perform basic carpentry, painting, electrical, and plumbing

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree preferably related to the assigned program area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of agricultural crop and/or livestock production
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, repair, calibration, and capabilities of agricultural research station equipment, implements, and infrastructure
  • Ability to work in close proximity to livestock, including beef and dairy cattle
  • Ability to use hand tools and perform basic carpentry, painting, and plumbing
  • Ability to perform repetitive reaching, stooping, standing, bending, and lifting of 50 lbs
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Non-Excepted Intrastate) at application or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment
  • Must possess a Public Pesticide Applicator License at application or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment
  • Must possess a Forklift Driver Certificate issued by the Research Division at application or qualify for certification within twelve months of employment
  • Medical clearance to wear a half-mask or full-face respirator with cartridges
  • Selected applicants must obtain a U.S. Department of Transportation medical certificate prior to employment
  • CDL positions are subject to pre-employment drug testing and DMV physicals
