About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assign inspectors to provide daily coverage in each inspected meat and poultry processing plant
  • Evaluate and document subordinate meat inspectors’ job performance through annual performance reviews
  • Communicate Agency policies and regulatory requirements to inspection and plant management personnel
  • Ensure inspection personnel evaluate Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) in inspected meat and poultry processing plants
  • Ensure inspection personnel evaluate Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plans in inspected meat and poultry processing plants
  • Maintain knowledge of federal and state meat and poultry inspection laws, regulations and rules
  • Complete quarterly reviews of inspected meat and poultry establishments and custom exempt establishments
  • Coordinate with the Circuit Supervisor to perform scheduled self-certification reviews
  • Direct and supervise assigned staff, including reviewing and assigning work, providing training, evaluating performance, approving leave, and initiating disciplinary actions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A bachelor’s degree in agricultural, biological, plant, animal, physical or natural science, food technology, or closely related field
  • Four years of qualifying inspection experience or administrative experience in an agricultural related field
  • Will accept an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Willingness and ability to perform all job-related travel normally associated with the position, including travel to multiple locations within Oklahoma on a daily basis
  • Willingness to work unusual hours and outside the normal work week schedule as necessary
  • Ability to work in extremely hot or cold environments and areas requiring handling of sharp tools and equipment
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
  • Successfully complete 24 hours of supervisory training during the first year as a supervisor and 12 hours per year thereafter
  • Possess and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license
