About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead engineering on a multi-year programme modernizing and migrating middle-office applications to AWS
Write production code for ReactJS front ends, TypeScript, NodeJS, npm/pnpm and DevOps pipelines
Build ReactJS interfaces replacing legacy desktop and GWT/PowerBuilder UIs
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, containerization, secrets management and observability
Create reference implementations, templates and starter projects for teams and AI agents
Conduct daily code reviews, pair with engineers and debug production issues
Lead the modernization engineering team and set architecture, code quality, testing and release standards
Own technical delivery plans, estimates and release quality across partner teams
Lead cutover, parallel runs and handover to run teams
Use AI tools and lead AI-augmented delivery workflows
Build agent workflows, prompt libraries and codebase knowledge context
Apply AI to reverse-engineer legacy code, generate specifications, convert code and generate tests
Track AI productivity and quality metrics and report outcomes to leadership
Implement human review checkpoints, audit trails and secure-coding gates for AI-generated code
Ensure AI-extracted business logic is validated by subject-matter experts and reconciled before go-live
Hire, coach and grow a permanent full-stack engineering team
Build AI fluency across the team and manage vendor and temporary capacity

Requirements

What you’ll need

12+ years in software engineering and still actively coding
5+ years leading engineering teams on modernization or cloud migration programmes
Strong modern ReactJS experience, including hooks, TypeScript, Redux or similar, component design, Jest/React Testing Library, and data-heavy enterprise UIs
Practical experience with CI/CD using Harness, Jenkins or GitHub Actions
Experience with Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes/ECS/EKS, Git workflows, automated testing and quality gates
AWS experience across compute, networking, IAM and managed services, including HA/DR design
Proven hands-on use of AI coding assistants and agents with measurable results
Ability to read and reverse-engineer legacy code
Experience delivering in a regulated financial services environment
Knowledge of investment servicing or middle-office areas preferred
Experience building MCP servers, knowledge graphs or retrieval-augmented context for engineering agents preferred
AWS Professional-level or equivalent certification preferred
