About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead engineering on a multi-year programme modernizing and migrating middle-office applications to AWS
Write production code primarily for ReactJS front ends, TypeScript, NodeJS, npm/pnpm, and DevOps pipelines
Build ReactJS front ends replacing legacy desktop and GWT/PowerBuilder UIs
Implement state management, component libraries, SSO/MFA integration, and accessibility
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, containerization, secrets management, and observability
Create reference implementations, templates, and starter projects for teams and AI agents
Conduct daily code reviews, pair with engineers, and debug production issues
Lead the modernization engineering team and establish architecture, code quality, testing, and release standards
Own technical delivery plans, estimates, release quality, cutover, parallel runs, and handover to run teams
Use AI tools and agents to accelerate discovery, code conversion, testing, and deployment
Build agent workflows, prompt libraries, and codebase knowledge context
Apply AI to reverse-engineer legacy code, generate specifications, convert code, and generate tests
Track AI productivity and quality metrics and report outcomes to leadership
Implement human review checkpoints, audit trails, and secure-coding gates for AI-generated code
Ensure AI-extracted business logic is validated by subject-matter experts and reconciled before go-live
Hire, coach, and grow a permanent full-stack engineering team
Build AI fluency across the team and manage vendor and temporary capacity
Ensure knowledge transfer to permanent staff

Requirements

What you’ll need

12+ years in software engineering and still actively coding
5+ years leading engineering teams on modernization or cloud migration programmes
Strong modern ReactJS skills, including hooks, TypeScript, Redux or similar, component design, Jest/React Testing Library, and data-heavy enterprise UIs
Practical experience with CI/CD using Harness, Jenkins, or GitHub Actions
Experience with Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes/ECS/EKS, Git workflows, automated testing, and quality gates
AWS experience covering compute, networking, IAM, managed services, and HA/DR design
Proven hands-on use of AI coding assistants and agents with measurable results
Ability to read and reverse-engineer legacy code
Experience delivering in a regulated financial services environment
Knowledge of investment servicing or middle-office areas preferred
Experience building MCP servers, knowledge graphs, or retrieval-augmented context for engineering agents preferred
AWS Professional-level or equivalent certification preferred
