About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, build and maintain automated end-to-end tests for a multi-year programme modernizing middle-office applications and migrating them to AWS
Build scalable UI automation frameworks using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium WebDriver or WebdriverIO
Write end-to-end tests for ReactJS applications covering trade processing, reconciliation, settlement and operations
Test WebSocket and Server-Sent Events features, including live updates, reconnection and message ordering
Improve test reliability and speed through stable locators, smart waits, parallel execution and fixing flaky tests
Perform cross-browser, accessibility and visual regression testing
Write BDD scenarios with Cucumber or similar tools
Support component-level testing with React Testing Library, Vitest/Jest or Cypress Component Testing
Automate REST API, contract, event-driven integration and service-virtualisation tests
Build comparison tests for legacy and modernized systems during parallel runs
Validate batch and end-of-day processing results and support reconciliation with data engineers
Manage masked and realistic financial test data
Build and run load and performance tests
Run test suites in Harness, GitHub Actions or Jenkins as CI/CD quality gates
Run tests in containers and cloud test infrastructure
Publish test reports, traces and dashboards
Use AI coding assistants to generate and review test cases, page objects, scenarios and test data
Collaborate with developers, business analysts and subject-matter experts on acceptance criteria and test coverage
Participate in code reviews and promote testable design and shift-left practices
Support cutover rehearsals, release testing and early-life support

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years in test automation or software engineering in test
Strong hands-on experience with at least one of Playwright, Cypress, Selenium WebDriver or WebdriverIO, and working knowledge of at least one other
Strong coding skills in TypeScript/JavaScript and/or Java
Experience automating REST API tests with REST Assured, Karate, Postman/Newman or similar
Experience writing and maintaining Cucumber or similar BDD scenarios
Solid understanding of modern ReactJS applications, the DOM, browser dev tools and network inspection
Experience running automated tests in Harness, GitHub Actions or Jenkins pipelines
Ability to write SQL queries to set up and check test data
Git, Docker and agile delivery
Regular use of AI coding assistants in professional work
Experience with several UI frameworks and migrating test suites between them preferred
Contract testing with Pact and service virtualisation with WireMock preferred
Performance testing with k6, JMeter or Gatling preferred
Experience testing WebSocket, SSE, Kafka/MQ or batch processing preferred
Experience testing migration or modernization programmes, including parallel runs and data reconciliation preferred
Experience in financial services, ideally trading, settlement, collateral or accounting preferred
ISTQB Advanced Test Automation Engineer or equivalent certification preferred
