About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines and systems supporting data acquisition, storage, transformation, and analysis
  • Design and maintain Azure data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and loading data into Azure data lakes and Databricks Delta Lake
  • Implement ELT/ETL processes and transformation workflows to clean, aggregate, enrich, and integrate data
  • Design and implement data models and database schemas for structured and unstructured data
  • Optimize data storage, access, queries, data structures, and infrastructure for performance and scalability
  • Migrate existing on-premises applications to the cloud, preferably Azure
  • Monitor data pipelines, troubleshoot issues, and ensure data quality, integrity, and security
  • Implement data quality controls, validation processes, governance standards, and policies
  • Protect sensitive data and address security vulnerabilities and privacy compliance risks
  • Collaborate with analysts, data scientists, software engineers, operations teams, and other stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Document data engineering processes, data flows, and system configurations
  • Support development teams by managing database and server instances, tuning complex queries, and managing Azure Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Synapse infrastructure
  • Stay current with data engineering technologies and identify opportunities to improve data infrastructure
  • Work with globally situated team members

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree level qualification in a computer or IT related subject
  • 10+ years of overall IT industry experience
  • 8+ years of overall Big Data pipeline experience
  • 8+ years of experience as a Data Engineer focused on Azure Databricks data solutions
  • 8+ years of cloud-based development experience, including Azure Services, Azure DevOps, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure SQL Database
  • Strong experience in data engineering, data pipeline development, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with Scala or Java
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL and relational/non-relational databases such as Snowflake, SQL Server, and Oracle
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and best practices
  • Experience in a multi-developer environment using version control such as Git
  • Experience with Snowflake is a plus
  • Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect certification is a plus
  • Experience working in the financial industry
  • Experience with agile development methodology
  • Effective written and oral professional communication
  • Ability to multitask, learn quickly, and solve problems
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Onsite availability four days per week and remote work one day per week
  • Availability during standard business hours aligned to project and stakeholder needs (8am to 5pm)
