About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize data pipelines and systems supporting acquisition, storage, transformation, and analysis of large data volumes
  • Collaborate with analysts, software engineers, operations teams, data scientists, and other cross-functional stakeholders
  • Migrate existing on-premises applications to the cloud, preferably Azure
  • Create and maintain data applications
  • Design, develop, and maintain Azure data pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and loading data into Azure data lakes, Databricks Delta Lake, and Snowflake
  • Implement ELT/ETL processes and transformation workflows to clean, aggregate, enrich, and integrate data
  • Design and implement data models and database schemas for structured and unstructured data
  • Optimize data storage, access, queries, data structures, and infrastructure for performance and scalability
  • Use modern data processing and pipeline tools to streamline and automate ETL processes
  • Integrate with State Street systems and implement RBAC and ABAC entitlement solutions
  • Monitor pipelines, troubleshoot issues, and ensure data quality, integrity, and security
  • Implement data quality controls and validation processes
  • Define and enforce data governance standards and policies
  • Implement security measures and address data security vulnerabilities and risks
  • Document data engineering processes, data flows, and system configurations
  • Stay current with data engineering trends, tools, and technologies
  • Support development teams with multiple database and server instances, complex query tuning, and Azure data infrastructure including Data Lake, Data Warehouse, and Synapse
  • Contribute to improving data engineering practices and data infrastructure

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree level qualification in a computer or IT related subject
  • 12+ years of overall IT industry experience
  • 12+ years of overall data pipeline and Data Warehousing experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer, focusing on Azure Databricks and Snowflake data solutions
  • 5+ years of experience in cloud-based development, including Azure Services, Cosmos, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, and related Azure services
  • Hands-on Snowflake experience designing data ingestion pipelines into the Data Warehouse
  • Strong experience in data engineering, data pipeline development, ETL/ELT processes, and data modeling
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and programming languages such as Scala or Java
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL and relational/non-relational databases including Snowflake, Teradata, SQL Server, and Oracle
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and dimensional modeling
  • Experience in a multi-developer environment using version control such as GIT and SVN
  • Azure Data Engineer Associate or Azure Solutions Architect certification is a plus
  • Experience working in the financial industry
  • Experience with agile development methodology
  • Professional written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to multitask and solve problems
