About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the design, development, and evolution of Tereina’s end-to-end payment flow, including initiation, validation, routing, execution, status tracking, returns, and reconciliation
- Ensure payments are accurate, idempotent, auditable, and observable end to end
- Lead integrations with banking partners, payment networks, and fintech partners from technical due diligence and sandbox certification through production go-live
- Build tooling for workflow orchestration, routing and retry logic, exception handling, payment status visibility, and internal operations
- Own the architecture and service contracts of payment services with Platform, SAP Integrations, and UX teams
- Set standards for reliability, security, data integrity, and compliance in a regulated environment
- Contribute hands-on through code reviews, integration design, and production-quality coding
- Lead, hire, onboard, grow, and develop the Payment Team
- Own production health through monitoring, alerting, on-call, incident response, and root-cause analysis
- Improve payment success rates, processing times, and straight-through processing
- Partner with Product, Platform, UX, SAP Engineering, Compliance, Operations, and banking partners
- Manage cross-team dependencies and align delivery with customer and partner go-live commitments
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years in software engineering
- At least 3 years managing engineers in a technical leadership role
- Deep understanding of commercial payments and money movement, including payment lifecycles, clearing and settlement, returns and exceptions, and reconciliation
- Experience across payment rails such as ACH, wires, SWIFT, or real-time payments
- Track record building and operating integrations with banks, payment processors, or financial partners
- Experience with API- and file-based connectivity, ISO 20022, and partner certification processes
- Strong proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and Kubernetes
- Experience with microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems design, including idempotency, consistency, retries, and failure handling
- Comfortable actively contributing to code and architecture while guiding technical direction
- Experience building in regulated financial environments
- Understanding of secure API design, data protection, auditability, AML/sanctions screening, and SOC 2 compliance requirements
- Strong proficiency with modern AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar
- Experience mentoring engineers across levels and cultivating a distributed team culture across time zones
- Strong communication skills for engaging stakeholders across levels and functions, including external banking and partner teams
- Preferred: experience with Apache Camel, Google Pub/Sub, Kafka, cross-border payments, FX, multi-currency money movement, SAP ERP payment processes, embedded finance, treasury, cash management, bank account management platforms, emerging payment rails, digital asset/stablecoin settlement, GCP, and infrastructure as code
- Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
