About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and operate payment services carrying payments from ERP submission through beneficiary receipt
  • Develop Payment Request capabilities including batch intake, validation, entity resolution, sanctions and AML screening, routing, FX-locked instruction plans, scheduling, and pain.002 status reporting
  • Develop Payment Execution capabilities including signed instruction intake, fund verification and reservation, processor dispatch, settlement and return tracking, reconciliation, and CAMT.052/053 reporting
  • Ship features end to end and help onboard banks and payment processors
  • Build and maintain API- and webhook-based adapters with rail-specific rules, sandbox certification, and feature-flagged production launches
  • Implement idempotent, safely redeliverable, auditable payment processing with state-machine transitions, duplicate-submission guards, signed instructions, and revision history
  • Contribute to ledger postings, fund-state transitions, and reconciliation against provider balances
  • Improve exception handling, error codes, operator actions, and internal Payment Operations tooling
  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code across unit, integration, and end-to-end tests
  • Contribute to design reviews and technical documentation
  • Monitor service health and participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and the on-call rotation
  • Collaborate with Product, Payment Operations, Quality Engineering, Platform, SAP Integrations, UX, banking partners, and payment partners

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years in software engineering, with experience building and running backend systems and APIs in production
  • Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot
  • RESTful API design experience
  • Relational database experience, including PostgreSQL or similar, SQL, and schema migrations
  • Working knowledge of message-driven systems, including publish/subscribe, queues, retries, and dead-lettering
  • Knowledge of idempotency, consistency, and failure handling
  • Hands-on experience with modern AI coding assistants such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar
  • Ability to use AI coding assistants to improve engineering speed, quality, and impact
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, cross-functional, distributed team
