About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collect inventory data with the required speed and precision for each project
- Record detailed tree data and field observations using a tablet and internal software
- Determine tree diameters, heights, species, and product sections within plots
- Use sub-meter GPS for plot location collection, monumentation, and boundary access
- Coordinate with property managers regarding concerns, hazards, and access details
- Collaborate with inventory foresters to maximize efficiency and operate safely
- Support forest inventories throughout the country, local inventory efforts, and natural resource management projects
- Travel periodically on projects, potentially exceeding 50 percent in and out of state
- Work weekends and significant overtime as part of the Critical Project Response Team
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Entry-level position; previous professional experience is helpful
- Ability to travel and conduct overnight work away from the office, up to 50 percent or more
- Ability to work independently in varied settings, including fields and forests
- Superior written and oral communication skills
- Competent with Microsoft Office software
- Experience with GPS data collecting and processing
- Experience with ESRI GIS software and GIS mapping and data collection principles
- Current valid driver’s license with personal vehicle suitable for forestry work
- ATV and snowmobile certifications
- Interest in emerging markets, ecosystem and environmental services, and forest carbon
- Desire to develop a career as a natural resource professional
- Ability to work with clients and other professionals
- Willingness to work weekends and significant overtime
- Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions and perform frequent walking and standing
- Ability to lift or carry up to 35 lbs
- Independent decision-making skills
