About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead a compact and growing senior software engineering team
- Own the architecture and technical execution of the STEER® Suite, from edge devices to the management platform
- Contribute directly to the STEER® Suite's most critical and complex components
- Define and evolve software architecture
- Own build, release and deployment strategy across development, QA and production
- Own technical standards, code quality and technical debt
- Act as senior technical point of contact on customer projects
- Work in sync with the Chief Product and Technology Officer on Product-related topics
- Provide technical mentoring, skills development and work allocation
- Run sprint planning, daily rhythm, reviews and retrospectives
- Triage development tickets and assign work based on skills and capacity
- Participate in hiring and onboarding as the team grows
- Own engineering practices, agile cadence, definition of done and documentation
- Adapt practices as the team and tooling evolve, including AI-assisted development
- Sequence development work with the Project Manager and flag capacity conflicts
- Organise handover between software delivery and field deployment with operations
- Improve engineering documentation across Stellar's engineering organisation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant software engineering experience, including several years in an architecture or technical leadership role
- Experience as tech lead, lead developer or engineering manager of a small team, typically 3 to 10 engineers
- Direct ownership of architecture decisions
- Appetite to drive AI-assisted development practices; hands-on experience is a plus
- Proven ability to lead a distributed, international team
- Strong Linux fundamentals
- Comfort operating across a full software stack, from edge devices to management platform
- Solid system and networking fundamentals, including IP addressing, routing, VPNs and Linux networking
- Hands-on experience running an agile team, including sprint cadence and backlog triage
- Strong documentation habits and an end-to-end ownership mindset
- English professional proficiency expected
- French is a plus
- Preferred: experience in networking, embedded systems, OpenWrt-based or embedded Linux, cloud-hosted web platforms built on Python/Django, REST APIs and asynchronous services
- Preferred: experience with open-source-based products
- Preferred: scaling an engineering team through a growth phase
- Preferred: introducing or reshaping engineering practices
- Preferred: CI/CD pipelines and automated testing
