About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support month-end close activities, including preparing account reconciliations and gathering supporting documentation using Deltek Vantagepoint
- Provide backup support for Accounts Payable processing and other routine accounting functions
- Process weekly Accounts Payable vouchers for assigned direct-bill vendors and recurring expenses
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and research routine reconciling items
- Maintain and reconcile prepaid expense accounts
- Track, record, and reconcile fixed asset activity
- Prepare and post routine general journal entries, cash disbursement entries, accruals, and other accounting transactions
- Assist with calculating, tracking, and recording sales tax, business license fees, and other applicable taxes and fees
- Review and verify AP vouchers and accounting entries for completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation
- Assist with accounting process improvements, including testing and implementing automated workflows
- Research and resolve routine accounting differences and escalate complex issues to the Controller
- Assist with special projects and other accounting tasks as needed
- Support Stillwater Sciences’ day-to-day operations and maintain accurate financial records
Requirements
What you’ll need- 1–2 years of accounting experience or equivalent education and relevant experience
- Associate degree in accounting, or currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
- Working knowledge of basic financial accounting principles, including accrual accounting, cutoff periods, account reconciliations, and capitalization concepts
- Ability to prepare clear and organized supporting documentation for accounting transactions and reconciliations
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Strong attention to detail, follow-through, and willingness to ask questions and learn new processes
- Professional verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat
- Personal integrity and sound judgment when working with confidential information
- Must possess valid work authorization; sponsorship is not available
- Experience with account reconciliations, Accounts Payable, journal entries, or month-end close activities is preferred
- Experience using an ERP financial software system, such as Deltek Vantagepoint, or other ERP software is preferred
- Experience working in an architecture or engineering firm, or another industry maintaining job cost or project cost information, is preferred
- Experience with PivotTables, SUMIF, and other Excel functions is preferred, or willingness to learn
