About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage and direct external design companies through all design phases for pursued and awarded projects
  • Support a high-volume portfolio of government and private-sector projects
  • Ensure design intent, constructability, cost control, and owner expectations remain aligned from preconstruction through execution
  • Direct outside consultants through all design phases as an active project leader
  • Serve as primary point of contact and day-to-day collaborator with architect teams
  • Document and lock in design phases to manage owner expectations and changes
  • Establish design priorities and objectives for each design phase
  • Develop and maintain design schedules interfacing with permitting, procurement, and construction phases
  • Work with estimating to organize budgets and define assumptions
  • Transfer budget and design information to the operational team through execution handoff
  • Convert owner vision into constructible design solutions aligned with scope, budget, and schedule
  • Build relationships with management, owners, designers, vendors, government, and trades
  • Understand owner needs, goals, and project requirements
  • Record and control change-management decisions with owners and trade partners
  • Conduct technical and operational risk assessments and advise on risks, opportunities, and hazards
  • Develop the external design team with emphasis on risk management and company qualifications
  • Support government client relationships at a senior level
  • Lead and encourage teams to meet or exceed goals while promoting company policies and guidelines
  • Mentor, manage, and evaluate the Design Phase Team

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, Estimating, or a related field (or equivalent relevant experience)
  • Minimum of 7 years of related construction industry experience
  • Experience supporting industrial/cold-storage, mission critical, or other complex project portfolios is preferred
  • Able to review and guide design and coordinate design efforts
  • High-level knowledge of construction and design industries
  • Ability to interface between design and preconstruction to control cost
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and client-facing ability
  • OTA (Other Transaction Authority) contract experience is preferred
  • Strong organizational skills while managing multiple projects across different locations nationally
  • Able to travel as needed throughout the country
  • Ability to make decisions and solve problems effectively under pressure
  • Ability to function effectively in a diverse team setting
  • Senior-level leadership and ability to develop followership to influence change
  • Adaptability to collaborative feedback
  • High degree of business acumen and decisiveness
  • Ability to work independently and with teams; strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong presentation, public speaking, and facilitation skills
