About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and manage resources, tools, training, and direction for sheet metal fabrication employees operating Amada laser cutting, punch, and press brake equipment
  • Oversee powder coat paint booth operations and the sheet metal welding team
  • Ensure safety, quality, and on-time delivery of components from the sheet metal fabrication shop
  • Support plant safety training and drive safety processes, including machine guarding and lockout/tagout on Amada CNC equipment
  • Lead safety communication
  • Hold teams accountable to processes, systems, and results across laser, punch/brake, powder coat, and welding work centers
  • Coach and implement lean processes and tools, including 5S, waste elimination, and nesting optimization to reduce scrap
  • Work with Supervisors and Team Leaders to prevent or resolve machine downtime, tooling changeovers, and material shortages
  • Ensure standardized work and process discipline for machine setup, programming, and part inspection
  • Suggest changes to equipment, tooling, and methods
  • Coordinate with maintenance and service technicians on preventive maintenance and repairs
  • Motivate employees and foster a cross-functional team approach
  • Remove barriers to progress and development

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Previous leadership experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment
  • Hands-on experience operating Amada or comparable CNC equipment
  • Experience with ISO-9001 requirements and processes
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • ERP computer experience; SAP preferred
  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in a sheet metal fabrication environment
  • Ability to follow written instructions, including Amada machine operating manuals and setup sheets
  • Ability to speak effectively with employees
  • Ability to read and interpret sheet metal fabrication drawings, flat patterns, bend charts, nesting layouts, operations and maintenance instructions, safety guidelines, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write and develop routine production and scrap reports
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, metric equivalents, bend allowances, material yield, and nesting efficiency
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach, stoop, talk, and hear
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to meet required visual capabilities
  • Ability to work in a sheet metal fabrication environment with moderate to high noise and varying temperatures
  • Appropriate PPE use and adherence to machine guarding and lockout/tagout procedures required
  • Lean Sigma certificate listed
  • Forklift certification a plus
