About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare preliminary layouts for facility plans, stormwater systems, underground utilities, grading and drainage systems using surveys and field investigations.
  • Prepare design and construction plans and specifications for municipal facilities, stormwater piping systems, open water drainage systems, roadways, potable water systems and sewer systems.
  • Design and coordinate water, wastewater, power, gas and fiber optic utility lines and their interactions for large water and roadway improvement projects.
  • Perform engineering inspections during construction, including utility line relocations.
  • Prepare utility plans, profiles, specifications and cost estimates; review shop drawings and contractor change requests.
  • Lead stakeholder reporting and interagency communication for NCDOT, municipalities, utility owners, contractors and project stakeholders.
  • Assist with permitting, easements, right-of-way and construction-phase coordination; prepare support documents, permit applications and inspections.
  • Maintain project records throughout project duration.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of civil, water/wastewater, or utility engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Experience with the preparation of construction plans and specifications for infrastructure projects.
  • Experience with conducting field assessments and investigations for preliminary engineering studies.
  • Experience with water and wastewater pipeline design and utility relocation/coordination.
  • NCDOT or municipal infrastructure experience preferred.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, and/or OpenRoads preferred.
